Patrick Camangian is an assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Education at the University of San Francisco and has been an English teacher since 1999, continuing in the tradition of teacher-research, applying critical pedagogies in urban schools.

Camangian began as an English teacher at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles and continued teaching English at Fremont High School as part of the East Oakland Step to College program. He has collaborated with groups such as California’s People’s Education Movement, the Education for Liberation national network, and San Francisco’s Teachers 4 Social Justice. His research interests and areas of expertise include: critical pedagogy and transformative teaching in urban schools; critical literacy, culturally empowering education, and urban teacher development.
